KY Coal Academy to sponsor Harlan County

Safety Days Mine Rescue event July 25-27

Versailles, Ky. – The Kentucky Coal Academy, in partnership with the Cumberland Tourist Commission and Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College, will host the Harlan County Safety Days Mine Rescue contest July 25-27, in Cumberland.

“We certainly hope no mining groups in our communities have to be in a situation where they must use emergency rescue skills, but it is something they have to be prepared for, and these events are the best way to help do so,” said Gary Whisman, Kentucky Coal Academy executive director. “Miners take these events and preparations very seriously.”

This year’s event will feature 15 teams competing in Mine Rescue, First-Aid and Pre-shift competitions.
