KY Coal Academy to host free mining refreshers in Pikeville and Harlan in December

Versailles, Ky. amp;nndash; The Kentucky Coal Academy will host free mining refresher trainings at Big Sandy Community and Technical College s (BSCTC) Pikeville campus and Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College s (SKCTC) Harlan campus this December.

BSCTC Pikeville campus

  • 8-hour Mine Emergency Technician Refresher: 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7; must have Kentucky MET card
  • 8-hour Surface Mining Refresher: 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8; must have Kentucky Surface Miners card
  • 8-hour or 16-hour Underground Mining Refresher: 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 12 and 13; attend a single day for an 8-hour certification or both days for a 16-hour certification; must have Kentucky Underground Miners card

  • 8-hour Electrical Mining Refresher: 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10; must have Kentucky Electrical card
  • 8-hour Mine Emergency Technician Refresher: 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 5; must have Kentucky MET card
  • 8-hour Surface Mining Refresher: 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6; must have Kentucky Surface Miners card
  • 8-hour or 16-hour Underground Mining Refresher: 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 13 and 14; attend a single day for an 8-hour certification or both days for a 16-hour certification; must have Kentucky Underground Miners card

Walk-ins are welcome at all trainings, but registration is strongly encouraged.

All trainings are taught by a Kentucky certified instructor, qualified by the Mine Safety and Health Administration as an instructor for the subject(s) to be taught. The Kentucky Coal Academy does not provide other services such as drug testing and card issuance.
