We re happy to help you sign up for any of these free upcoming mining training opportunities at our colleges. Although these are walk-in classes, registration is encouraged.

Big Sandy Community & Technical College Pikeville campus

120 South Riverfill Drive, Room S230

  • 8-hour Surface Mining refresher: 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Nov. 7 and Dec. 1; must have Kentucky Surface Miners card
  • 8-hour or 16-hour Underground Mining refresher: 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Nov. 8 & 9 and Dec. 14 & 15; attend a single day for an 8-hour certification or both days for a 16-hour certification; must have Kentucky Underground Miners card

Hazard Community & Technical College Technical campus

101 Vo-Tech Drive

  • 40-hour Initial MET Mine Emergency Technician training: beginning Oct. 23
  • 24-hour Initial Surface Mining training: beginning at 6 p.m. Oct. 23
  • 8-hour or 16-hour Underground Mining refresher: 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Oct. 17 & 18; attend a single day for an 8-hour certification or both days for a 16-hour certification; must have Kentucky Underground Miners card

The Kentucky Coal Academy does not provide other services such as drug testing and card issuance.

Our classes and trainings are taught by a Kentucky Certified Instructor, whom is qualified by the Mine Safety and Health Administration as an instructor for the subject(s) to be taught.
